City of Carlsbad's Preschool Pays Off

By Mandy S. Chuey November 1, 2017

Did you know the city of Carlsbad offers low cost, co op style preschool programs around town? The programs encourage parent participation through volunteering in the classroom and taking turns providing snack. The kids take fun local field trips, are engaged in age appropriate curriculum and creativity and imagination are encouraged.

Our family has been lucky enough to attend the city's Kruger House Preschool located at Holiday Park. It’s a small building tucked away amongst the trees and may be overlooked by the passing public. But this little corner of the world means everything to smaller local residents and their parents.  Inside Kruger House is a play structure, play house, swing set, grass and an old twisted Pepper tree which sparks the kids imaginations. Kids climb and incorporate this tree in their dinosaur play regularly.

This preschool may not be “state of the art” and has limited technology- but computers and such are not really needed here. The kids have plenty of these gadgets at home.  Kruger House supplies the children with something the much more valuable , a stellar staff. These dedicated teachers have taught here for years; Miss Brenda has been with the City Preschool Program for 30 years, Miss Laurie for 23, Miss Sandra for 15, and the musically inclined Miss Paige for 7.  It’s clear that this is not just a job but a mission for these teachers to give our kids a positive play based, nurturing, and enjoyable start to their academic experience. The city's preschools are a unsuspecting Carlsbad legacy.  Countless families and siblings have gone through their beloved (chained) gates for the past 37 years. The city's preschool program is said to be the longest running and most successful of all the city's programs.

The fun crafts, show and tell with the cherished “surprise bucket” and the simple belief that kids learn through play leave a lasting impression.  This preschool comes highly recommended by many generations of our beloved tiny residents including mine.
