Get Back to Dating

A Note from Your Publisher

January 31, 2018

The beginning of the year is an optimal time to set goal, weed out negativity and start fresh.  For this year I wanted to set some goals for me.  As a mama of three very busy children, ME often gets pushed to the bottom of the list.  Putting that pen to paper when it comes to me, well that was hard. Like really hard.  However, this is my year.  I turn 40 this year, my kids are no longer in diapers and essentially they can brush their teeth on their own {if they remember}.

My first goal was to date my husband.  When I think back to those days {pre-children}, swirling memories of laughter & happiness come to mind.  I remember spending a whole day preparing my outfit, hours blow drying my hair and getting all dolled up.  This. was. A. date.

It’s amazing when you put that pen to paper and suddenly the mind makes that goal happen.

This past weekend, we not only went on a date, it was a double.  Another couple, met us in The Village in Carlsbad.  We had a great plan.  We mapped out three local restaurants/bars and set on our evening.

First stop was Witch Creek Winery.  We are members of the Wine Club so it was a perfect beginning to our night.  The waitstaff and wine experts are friendly and they have a light menu.  We had the Olive & Cheese Platter, a perfect compliment.  The wine tasting is a benefit to being members of the club.  Next Stop was Oak & Elixir, a new wine bar on State Street. The ambiance is trendy and the the owner and her staff are awesome.  We sat in the back on comfy couches and had an array of deliciousness.  The Pretzel Roll + Beer Cheese Dip was decadent.  We also had the COMBO CHEESE + CHARCUTERIE BOARD that was enough for an army.  The different cheeses were eclectic and paired well with our recommended wine selections by the bartender.  We will definitely be returning.  Our last stop was only fitting to a evening in the village.  If you haven’t been here, you must make it a point.  The entrance is located around the corner from The Land and Water Company on the southeast side of the building.  Carlsbad’s original Speakeasy, The Charles Kenneth is described as a seductive escape to have a fine drink.  I don’t want to give you too many details, as the experience is worth waiting for.  Be sure to read the website, make a reservation & get the “password”  Ask Eddie, the gentleman at the door for the “tour”  Be amazed, mystified by the history of this mighty establishment.

So now, I ask you, when is your next date?
