Carlsbad, California

April 25, 2019

The City of Carlsbad is hosting Entre Tinta y Lucha: 45 Years of Self-Help Graphics & Art March 31 through June 9 at William D. Cannon Art Gallery, located in the Carlsbad City Library complex at 1775 Dove Lane. Admission is free.

“Self-Help Graphics & Art is an organization that has been the forefront of experimental and innovative printmaking for many years,” said Curator of Exhibitions Karen McGuire.  “When we heard that they were celebrating their 45th anniversary with an exhibition of past notable works, we wanted to bring this exhibition to share with Carlsbad.”

Self-Help Graphics & Art (SHG) is a community center in East Los Angeles dedicated to the creation and promotion of new works by Chicano and Latino artists through experimental and innovative printmaking techniques. Since 1973, SHG has been the intersection where arts and community meet, providing a forum for local and international artists. This 45th anniversary exhibition looks back on the four plus decades of artistic innovation and excellence. Family Open Studios, a free art-making workshop for the whole family, is scheduled for May 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the gallery. Participation and supplies are free. No reservations are required.

Family Open Studios are generously funded by the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts. For more information about William D. Cannon Art Gallery, visitwww.carlsbadca.gov/arts.
