There are so many demands on you when you have a family. Your calendar is packed with school events, volunteer hours, sports activities and birthdays. Although we’ve chosen this life, come on folks! Let's admit it’s a TON of work. You might be up all hours crafting the perfect Pinterest-y cupcakes for your kids classroom, making 10 trips to the craft store for the fourth grade mission project or spending hours at a birthday party with people you’ve never met before. Somehow, we all find ourselves on the weekends singing Happy Birthday around a Captain Underpants cake. Parents, we see you. We see the sacrifice, the effort and the time! Erika and I want to give you all a virtual pat on the back. You all ROCK!
Over this past weekend, we took part in a school carnival and all I could think of is this took hundreds of hours (aka parent hours) to execute. All of this work, coordination, resources and time are so that all these little beings we’ve created, can have a memorable day (and way too much sugar). Sure we get satisfaction from their happiness and the camaraderie that might come along with working with others, but sometimes we don’t..and that’s ok too. The point is your efforts have not gone unnoticed. Your hours of painstakingly driving to and from for your kid's social calendar have been noted. Not to mention, those pinterest-y cupcakes were damn FABULOUS!
So this week, look around, know it counts, and own the fact that being a parent is work and not always a cake walk (despite the fact you might be actually be in the middle of a cake walk!) North County parents, we salute you! Take a bow, you deserve it.
Now get back to work, little Jimmy can't find his baseball glove!
