The Haunted Corn Maze

Carlsbad Strawberry Company

By Jack Shaver, Grom and local Jr. Reporter October 10, 2018

I spent Saturday night in a corn maze wearing a zombie mask. Through the clear night sky you can see the smoke coming from the chainsaw engines. Every once in a while I would hear someone scream right as the chainsaw turned on. The sweet smell and the light on the top of the corn stalks made it a perfect night for some people to get freaked out. I would follow certain people for a super long time after they walked by. When they realized that I was there they would be scared or just say “Hi.” I will for sure remember these memories for years to come.

Saturday night, I was invited to go help out with scaring people at the Carlsbad Haunted Corn Maze. This was probably one the the best privileges I’ve had. Most people there had flashlights but they were still good fun to mess around with. What I would do is run right in front of the people to make them confused. Then I would cut all the way through the corn to where the other part of the trail is and wait for the people who I just confused. When they came I would stand up right next to the corn stalks and walk out onto the trail which would scare them because they would think that I was a different person trying to scare them. I did this method to a ton of people when someone came by saying that 27 teenage girls were were coming into the maze. I ended up knowing most of them because they all went to Valley, the local middle school. So I talked to them for a while, hung out with them and showed them the way out and some shortcuts.

If you ever have a chance to come here you basically have to. Here are the reasons why. First, the place is radical. You can stay in the corn maze and run around for as long as you want. Also, the people who work there are super nice. Second, you can buy pumpkins, take pictures with the scarecrow, and ride in tractors around the whole field. Inside the maze there are multiple fog machines, people with chainsaws and other people with different costumes such as a scarecrow, a couple of zombies, a surgeon, and a few clowns.

All in all, going to the Carlsbad Strawberry Company is a very good experience for all ages with its pumpkins, corn mazes, and tractor rides. Scaring all of the people was a real treat because I could scare them in any way I wanted. If there were people coming I would hide in the stalks them scare them and follow their path for a while. To me it felt like a very big privilege to be there and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to do so. In conclusion, the corn maze was a fun and very scary experience and I think that you should come too.
