I am Douglas Goldfein and I am your new MacKids publisher! My wife and I moved to Carlsbad in 2020 and we have loved every minute of it. I am very excited to help all the parents learn of new and exciting events in the community and I can't wait to get started at full-speed.
I taught English in Taiwan for kids and adults of all ages for 7 years and when I returned to the U.S. I completed my Masters in Education and taught kindergarten for 2 years in San Jose, CA. While teaching, I worked for a large kids sports program in San Jose as a coaching trainer where I would train coaches to be better coaches. I was also the middle school softball coach for 2 seasons as well.
When I was coaching for these larger franchise type programs, they had a "get them in and get them out" mentality with no real skills being taught. I saw this up in San Jose and once we moved to Carlsbad, I noticed it with a lot of the other similar programs as well.
So, I opened Phoenix Sports with the goal of bringing classroom techniques and developmental growth strategies to the playing field. I created a non-competitive kids sports program that truly focused on empowering growth, building self-confidence, teamwork skills, and developmental life skills. Not only does Phoenix Sports help coach sports skills in basketball, soccer, and baseball. We focus on promoting life skills that children can build upon as they continue to develop, grow, and learn more about themselves.
