Delicious gummy candies you won't feel guilty feeding your kids

By Sydney Bondarenko July 19, 2024

Skip the store-bought candy and make your own healthy gummies at home! These homemade gummies are packed with real fruit and natural ingredients, making them a nutritious and delicious treat for kids. The best part is that you are not limited to gummy bears, head over to Amazon and choose your favorite molds! Try dinosaurs, hearts, worms, or in this case, fun sea creatures!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh fruit juice (choose your favorite: orange, apple, grape, or a mix of berries**)
  • 3 tablespoons honey, agave, or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • 3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
  • Silicone gummy sea creature molds (the one we tried out and liked - plus it's BPA free)
  • Dropper or small measuring cup for pouring (may come with mold)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Juice

  • In a small saucepan, heat the fruit juice over medium-low heat. You want it hot but not boiling.
  • If you prefer sweeter gummies, stir in the honey or maple syrup until dissolved.

2. Add the Gelatin

  • Gradually sprinkle the gelatin over the warm juice, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  • Continue to whisk until the gelatin is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

3. Pour into Molds

  • Using a dropper or small measuring cup, carefully pour the mixture into the silicone gummy molds.
  • Let the kids help with this step – it's fun and helps them feel involved! Make sure mixture isn't too hot for tiny hands.

4. Set the Gummies

  • Place the filled molds in the refrigerator and let them set for at least 1-2 hours or until firm.***

5. Remove and Enjoy

  • Once set, carefully pop the gummies out of the molds.****
  • Store the gummies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Tips and Tricks

  • **The juice you choose IS important, since some juices won't set!! Avoid juices containing pineapple, kiwi, mango, ginger root, papaya, figs, or guava.
  • You can add sugar, just make sure it's fully dissolved.
  • ***Pro tip: Don't spill! Place molds on a cookie sheet for easy transfer.
  • ****Make sure the gummies are cold when removing from molds, or they won't come out nicely!

These homemade healthy gummy bears are a great alternative to store-bought candy. They're easy to make, and kids will love both the process and the tasty result. Enjoy these nutritious treats as a fun snack or a special reward!

Feel free to experiment with different fruit juices and even add pureed fruit for extra flavor and nutrition. Enjoy!

We tried it with lemonade. Yum!
